Orchestra Readings-to-Premieres Program

Established in 2019. Modeled off the reading-residency format of the Bahlest Eeble Readings Program, composer alumni receive a commission for a new work for chamber orchestra, complete with a reading workshop well before the premiere. Generously supported by Justus and Elizabeth Schlichting. Learn more.

 

Composing Earth

Established in 2021. Alumni are offered a stipend for a creative study period as well as a paid commission on the topic of environmental crisis. Learn more.

General Commissions

Established in 2018. All other commissions in the categories of solo, chamber, and large ensemble/orchestral brought to life by both emerging and renowned artists and organizations around the world. See the list of commissions here.

CREA Commissions

Established in 2019. Recipients of a Fellowship from CREA (Composers for Racial Equality in the Arts) receive mentorship from renowned composers of color as well as a paying commission. Learn more.

Composing for Young Musicians

New in 2022! The Academy is pleased to embark on a longterm commissioning program utilizing the talents of a diverse range of Academy Alums to create high quality contemporary music for young pre-college musicians, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds. We are excited to be launching this program with a collaboration with Play on Philly on The Composing For Young Orchestras Project in 2022-2023!
