Gabriela Lena Frank is really having a moment, and the Pacific Northwest gets to be a part of it. Earlier this year, Britt Fest Orchestra commissioned and premiered her Frida y Diego Suite, a selection of music from her opera El último sueño de Frida y Diego, which The Metropolitan Opera staged in a new production this year and then broadcast to movie theaters around the world. Next month, on three concerts Oct. 8-11, the Oregon Symphony will give the west coast premiere of Picaflor: A Future Myth, a piece which OSO co-commissioned and which won Frank her Pulitzer earlier this year.
